The full serial number is located on the bottom of the frame and the left side of the back strap and trigger guard grips strap beneath the grips. The assembly number, "322" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate.
The assembler's mark "3" and the Colt 'Triangle/VP' proofmark are stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt three-date/two-line patent marking followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The caliber, ".38 COLT." is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "COLT'S PT. The barrel has a period custom front sight with stippled ramp. The hammer has borderless knurling on the spur. Two-piece grips with inlaid nickel-silver Colt medallions. The frame, hammer and loading gate are color casehardened. The revolver has a blued barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The letter states that this revolver was shipped to the New York Sporting Goods Company on June 10, 1927.
